A wedding picture from 1953 has been returned to the happy couple’s granddaughter after librarians found it stuffed in the pages of a donated book.

The black and white photo was discovered in a bookstore run by a library.

Staff appealed in an attempt to find the family behind the image.

And in a stroke of luck, someone got in touch.

It was found in a book at the shop linked to Sterling Heights Public Library in Detroit, Michigan, US.

The library’s post read: “Now, we’re on a mission to reunite it with its rightful family.

“We found this beautiful wedding photo tucked inside a book donated to our Used, But Sterling Bookstore.

“Do you recognise the happy couple or know who this memory might belong to?

“Help us give this story the happy ending it deserves.

“The back says ‘Frank and Josephine Ruggirello, Nana-Nono’.”

The post was spotted by a woman who recognised the surname, and she tagged childhood pal Sarah Ruggirello.

She turned out to be the granddaughter of the married couple in the photo, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Sarah said, “One of my childhood friends, whom I haven’t spoken to in years, tagged me in this post.

“She recognised my last name in it and said, ‘Hey, are these some family members of yours?’”

Sarah confirmed that the image was taken at her grandparents’ wedding in Detroit on 26 September 1953.

She said, “My dad and I have never seen this exact photo before; we didn’t know this photo existed.”

Sarah said that Frank Ruggirello died in 2020, and Josephine passed away in 2023.

They were married for 67 years.

She added, “I think now I’m going to frame it and display it somewhere in my house just because this was such a cool story and such a cool thing that happened.”

One local said, “Great story!”

“I love this! The photo is beautiful,” added Katherine.

Jackie said: “The other couple in the photo is my grandparents. My dad Joe Romano donated this book to the library and sometimes uses old pictures as bookmarks.
