A Star Wars movie poster has sold for £2.9m at auction.
The promotional artwork was for the first of the sci-fi film franchise.
It came out in 1977 and was just called Star Wars.

The movie is now called Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope due to prequels.
The poster was owned by producer Gary Kurtz, who died in 2018.
It went for over three times the estimated sale price of £900,000, as reported on What’s The Jam.
It features Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, R2-D2, C-3PO and Obi-Wan Kenobi and battle scenes from the classic movie.
His family offered the artwork, by Tom Jung, for sale for the first time.

His daughter Melissa said: “It has been an honour to have this wonderful painting with us all these years. It serves as a warm reminder of that incredible experience, being part of the making of a film that has touched so many lives.”
She added that she and her sister were “deeply grateful that the movie our father helped bring to life has had such a profound and lasting impact on people all around the world.”
It was sold at Heritage Auctions’ Hollywood Entertainment sale on Wednesday (10 Dec), in Dallas, Texas, US.

A spokesperson said: “This remarkable artwork has never been publicly offered.
“And holds a position as one of the most significant Star Wars pieces ever to come to auction.
“In addition to its usage on the half sheet, this art was also featured on the front cover of the film’s original theatrical program.
“The 24-sheet billboard, and in numerous magazine and newspaper advertisements throughout May and June 1977.
“Serving as the key art for the film’s theatrical release on May 25, 1977, this painting remains one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable pieces of imagery in popular culture.
