A rare three-wheel car used as a base for Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder in Star Wars is for sale.

The 1971 Bond Bug 700ES has done just under 41,000 miles.

It is for sale for £10,000.

The tangerine-coloured motor has been in the same ownership since 1983 and had a body and chassis restoration in 2021.

There are fewer than 150 road registered Bugs remaining.

The wedge shaped three wheeler which became an icon of the early 1970s was styled by Tom Karen, also creator of the Raleigh Chopper bike.

This the top spec example is distinguished by an upgraded cylinder head, plusher seats and practical touches such as mud flap, a spare wheel and an ashtray.

A fresh MOT issued without advisories confirms its road ready condition as reported by What’s The Jam.

Its 700 cc Reliant four cylinder engine produces 32 bhp, enough to whisk the glass reinforced plastic body to 78mph while still qualifying the Bug for affordable three wheel taxation.

The sale also includes a spare engine and a gearbox for future maintenance.

A spokesperson for Iconic Auctioneers said: “Demand has grown for these charismatic trikes, famous not only for their festival ready looks.

“But also for providing the running gear for Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder in the original Star Wars.

“Survivors in long term ownership and sound mechanical order are increasingly scarce.”

Auctioneer Rob Hubbard added: “The Bond Bug embodies the fun loving spirit of early 1970s Britain and proves that collectable cars need not be expensive or high powered to bring a smile.

“This wonderfully kept 700ES is a perfect example of how we champion motoring excellence at every level of the market.”

It is being auctioned by Iconic Auctioneers on June 1 in Northampton.
