A rare collectible card signed by Michael Jordan is expected to sell for a staggering £2.2 million.

The 1986-87 Fleer #57 rookie card, complete with the basketball star’s autograph, is heading under the hammer.

It will be auctioned by Joopiter, an online marketplace founded by music icon Pharrell Williams, who is originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, US.

The auction, which opens on 17 June and closes on 26 June, will be the first time the marketplace has listed sports memorabilia.

The card, graded Mint 9 for condition and Gem Mint 10 for the autograph by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), is one of the finest examples of a collectible.

In early 2024, the 62-year-old basketball legend signed just nine of the Fleer rookie cards using a blue Sharpie.

The private signing session took place at his Florida golf estate.

This moment was carefully overseen by PSA representatives to ensure authenticity.

Each card was meticulously authenticated and graded soon after, as reported by What’s The Jam.

A Joopiter spokesperson said: “This card is more than a collector’s item – it’s a piece of sports and pop culture history.

“It embodies the legacy of Michael Jordan and the evolution of the basketball card hobby.

“Jordan’s rookie season in 1984-85 set the sports world ablaze.

“Selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls, Jordan instantly lived up to the hype.

“By the end of his first season he was averaging 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game, carrying the once struggling Bulls back into the playoffs for just the third time in a decade.”

The card’s starting bid will be set at £1.4 million.

The most expensive Michael Jordan card ever sold was a one-of-one 2003-04 Upper Deck Logoman patch autograph card.
This sold for £2.1 million last summer, according to Bleacher Report.

Given its pristine condition, unmatched provenance, and cultural weight, this particular signed rookie may soon break the record.
