Niki Lauda’s old BMW is for sale for over half a million pounds.

The late Formula One great had the M1 Coupe specially made for him.

The flash motor was given to him as a prize for winning the 1979 ProCar series.

Three times F1 World Champ took the title in 1975, 1977 and 1984.

The car boasts a 3.5 litre six cylinder engine and can do a top whack of 165mph.

It has only done 12,644 miles in the last 45 years since it was made.

It was the first one of just 199 of the models ever produced.

The car is being sold by Mercum Auctions in Kissimmee, near Orlando, Florida, US.

The sale takes place on 17 January, as reported on Whats The Jam.

The listing reads: “The BMW M1 is one of the German automaker’s most legendary models, which is saying a lot considering the rest of its line-up.

“While it was initially developed in the late 1970s as a racing collaboration between Italian automobile manufacturer Lamborghini and BMW, BMW ultimately built the car on its own.

“The homologated version was sold to the public as the M1, with 399 M1 road cars produced during its two-and-a-half-year run.

“Apart from its racing accolades, the BMW M1 was the first car to be entirely developed by the automaker’s M division.

“And used a 3.5L M88/1 straight-six engine with Bosch Motronic fuel injection and Magneti-Marelli ignition system.

“With six separate throttle bodies, twin-cams and four valves per cylinder, the engine pushed a whopping 266 HP and 243 lb-ft of torque through a ZF 5-speed manual transmission.

“With all of this under the hood, the M1 could reach a reported top speed of 165mph.”

It added: “This particular example is not only a magnificent specimen because of its inherent rarity.

“But also because it was previously owned by and built for world-famous F1 driver Niki Lauda as a trophy for winning the 1979 ProCar series.”
