A mum who woke in the middle of the night to find her basement filling with storm water decided that since she couldn’t stop it, she might as well swim in it.

Jessica Loos was left devastated when a violent downpour flooded her home at 2 am.

Panic set in as the water rose at an alarming pace, reaching 14 inches in just a few hours.

The mum and her husband, Jabez, 27, scrambled to salvage their belongings, hauling family treasures upstairs in a desperate attempt to save them.

But the murky, relentless water had already ruined much of what they held dear – from baby clothes to Jessica’s high school diploma.

But instead of breaking down completely, the mum shocked TikTok viewers by diving into the floodwater.

Her video has over 3.7 million views and 4,700 comments.

“My heart sank,” the nanny told What’s The Jam.

“I knew this was just the beginning of a long day.

“I immediately woke up my husband and texted my parents, who live 45 minutes away.

“I’ve struggled with my mental health over the years.

“This really hurt us.

“I felt defeated watching our basement fill up.

“I tried to make light of the situation by making jokes, but tears were shed.”

The flood was caused by record rainfall in the area, which left the ground completely saturated.

With nowhere for the water to drain, it pooled outside their home and seeped through the foundation.

Although the total financial damage has yet to be calculated, the family had already spent hundreds of dollars on pumps, hoses and cleaning supplies.

Among the losses were a bassinet, baby bouncer, baby swing, mini fridge, bed, suitcases, photos and other cherished keepsakes.

And to make matters worse, Jessica from Quincy, Illinois, says their home insurance won’t be covering the damage.

The basement was drained by morning, but the mum admits the mental toll has lingered – even as she tried to keep spirits up with jokes and viral videos.

With her parents now helping the couple clean and run endless loads of washing, Jessica has also installed a Ring camera to keep watch in case disaster strikes again.

She added, “We know eventually things will be okay.

“But I know our feelings are valid about the loss of items in our home.”

The home was flooded on 27 July, and the video has gone viral in the weeks since.
