A ‘mini tsunami’ wiped out five beachfront restaurants at a tourist resort.

The sea swell lasted for around three hours, causing some of the restaurants to collapse or tilt.

The huge waves caused the floor to crack open at one establishment.

The swell started at around 9am yesterday (17 Sept) and lasted until midday.

In total, five beachfront restaurants in the Chinese coastal resort of Beihai were badly damaged, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Images show seawater completely flooding the 323 Seafood Restaurant.

The sea is seen pouring into a seated area of another beachfront venue.

Meanwhile, the concrete floor of one diner is seen cracked wide open with seawater pouring in through the hole.

Liu Chengguo, 59, owner of Zai Seng Seafood, said the waves started reaching his terrace at around 10am.

He told local media: “I realised the situation was not good at the time so I quickly arranged for the diners in the terrace to eat somewhere else.

“Not long after that, there was a loud bang and the floor suddenly cracked, forming an enormous hole.

“The sand underneath washed away and the ground collapsed, causing a large hole to appear.”

He added that there were around 20 people there at the time, but everyone was unharmed during the flooding.

Chengguo has been working in the area for over eight years.

Despite his restaurant being invaded by waves in the past, he said he has never seen a swell as devastating as this before.
