We might soon be able to enjoy bacon without ever harming a pig.
Startup company Mission Barns is using cutting-edge technology to produce real meat – without a single animal being killed.
The process is simple.
A tiny, harmless sample is taken from a pig and grown in a cultivator that mimics the animal’s body.

The lab-grown meat is then combined with plant protein to create the finished product.
This is where Dawn comes in – described by the company as “one of the liveliest pigs you’ll ever meet”, as reported by What’s the Jam.

She is currently “happily roaming free”, since Mission Barns’ process doesn’t harm her.
According to Mission Barns, Dawn’s sample was placed in a cultivator alongside plant-based nutrients she loves – sugars, proteins, vitamins and more – allowing nature to “work its magic”.

The sample is fattened in the lab, just as Dawn would be when well-fed, and after just two weeks it’s harvested and blended with plant protein to produce Mission Barns meat.
Meanwhile, Dawn continues to enjoy her life at Sweet Farm, a climate sanctuary in upstate New York that fights the impacts of factory farming.
She now lives freely, enjoying sunny pastures, belly rubs and plenty of love.

Mission Barns, based in San Francisco, also applies the same technique to cows, chickens and ducks, with Dawn playing a “small but mighty role in shaping the future of food”.
The company says its goal is to make meat more sustainable.
“Cultivated meat makes it possible to enjoy real meat without the animal for the first time,” Mission Barns said.
“It’s the meat we all know and love, crafted in a cultivator instead of raising a live animal.
“Just one pig, living freely, has the potential to feed millions.”
All of Mission Barns’ current products contain real pork – made without harming a single animal.
