A man has scooped £800,000 on the lottery after receiving two scratchcards in a Valentine’s Day card from his mother.
Matthew T. Broadley claimed his whopping cash prize on 14 February after realising he had won the night before.
Now he is the proud owner of £794,520 ($1 million).
Matthew – who comes from the town of Tyngsborough, located northwest of Boston in Massachusetts, US – received a Valentine’s Day card from his mum.

He found two scratchcards inside the card and, after the first one resulted in nothing, he found the second was a winner on the $1 million Jumbo Cash ticket.

It was the first $1 million prize to ever be claimed in the game.
Broadley said he scratched the ticket at around 11 pm on 13 February.
When he went to collect his prize at the Massachusetts Lottery headquarters the following day, he said: “Thanks mom!”

He chose to receive his cash prize in the form of a one-time payment of £516,425 ($650,000) before taxes.
He told lottery officials that he doesn’t currently have any plans for what to do with his winnings.
His mother bought the winning scratchcard at Lakeview General Store in Tyngsborough.

The shop will receive a £7,946 ($10,000) bonus for selling the winning ticket.
