His windfall came on his wife’s birthday.

John was given a choice of taking home £19,442 ($25,000) a year for the rest of his life or bagging a lump sum of £303,301 ($390,000).

He chose the lump sum, as reported by What’s The Jam.

“The day of the drawing was actually my wife’s birthday.

“It’s hard to believe.

“I always just play one ticket because that’s all it takes to win, right?”

John bought his £1.50 ($2) ticket using Online Play.

According to the lottery company’s website, he beat odds of one in 1,813,028.

John said he plans to use his winnings to pay off some debts and donate to charity.

He will set the rest aside for old age.

He said: “This will help get me to where I need to be for retirement.”

One local said: “You hit it out of the park, congratulations! Sounds like a system to me. I hope you don’t mind if I pick mine the same way.”
