A James Bond-style, amphibious car that can go on roads and water is selling for £45,000.

The blue 1965 Amphicar 770 can do 70mph on dry land.

And it will take 21.7 seconds to go from 0-60mph.

But what separates it from other cars is it can also travel at an 7mph in the sea, lakes or rivers.

That is the same as most luxury yachts.

When it reaches port, the doors of the amphibious motor – which have special watertight seals – are locked.

Only 3,878 of them were made in the 60s.

The convertible comes with life jackets and paddles in case it breaks down in water.

It is being sold in Hershey, Pennsylvania, US, today (8 Oct)

It is similar to an aquatic car – dubbed Wet Nellie – that can go underwater.

It featured in the 1977 Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, as reported on Whats The Jam.

It is being sold by RM Sotheby’s and a spokesperson said: “One of very few right-hand-drive examples in the United States.

“Finished in Lagoon Blue over a blue and white interior.

“Powered by a Triumph inline-four with a four-speed manual gearbox.

“A wonderful novelty to enjoy on land and water.”

They added: “On land, the Amphicar behaved like any other small European automobile of the day.

“With a rear-mounted Triumph four-cylinder engine driving the rear wheels.

“After locking special watertight seals in the doors in place, along with the front luggage lid, the car could be slowly driven right into the water.

“With the throw of a lever, the engine’s power would then be directed to dual rear nylon propellers, while the front wheels served as rudders for steering in the water.

“The Amphicar had a top speed of around 7mph on water and 70mph on land.”

The guide price is up to £45,000 ($60,000).
