A huge 10ft crocodile has been spotted next to a reptile warning sign, creating a hilarious juxtaposition.

Amateur nature photographer Alastair Spykerman saw the enormous croc while taking snaps of birds in the area.

He filmed the reptile as it basked next to a sign reading: “Watch out for crocodiles.”

The signpost added: “Stay clear of the water’s edge.”

Alastair filmed the animal in the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in Singapore.

The site is an ASEAN Heritage Park and an important stop for migratory birds.

The critter snapper said the saltwater crocodile (crocodylus porosus) was about 9’8” (3m) in length.

“I took the video footage with my mobile phone at around 5.20pm last Friday (2 Jan),” the photographer originally from Ipoh in Malaysia told What’s The Jam.

“It was filmed from Little Heron Deck in the nature reserve when I was on my way to Eagle Point to do some bird photography.

“Saltwater crocodiles are usually seen during low tide in the reserve.

“They often open their mouths during low tide, primarily for thermoregulation.

“This behaviour is known as ‘gaping’ and it helps them to cool down.

“It was basking on the shore around 15 minutes.”

Alastair, who moved to Singapore 38 years ago, added: “The saltwater crocodiles found in Singapore are among the largest crocodile species on earth, and males can grow to more than 16’4” (5m) in length.

“Crocodile sightings in this wetland reserve are increasing due to the healthy ecosystem here.”

Responding to the footage, one local joked: “Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. If you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream!”

“You were lucky to see a saltwater crocodile during the day. Ever seen one at night? Worse than seeing a ghost!” added Alan.

Tom said: “The government should get rid of crocodiles as they’re a danger to people, especially beachgoers and fishermen.”
