Angry star Nicky Jam has withdrawn his support for Donald Trump just days before the election.

The reggaeton singer, real name Nick Rivera Caminero, 43, endorsed the former president at a rally in Las Vegas on 13 September.

The Puerto Rican angered many Latin music stars when he appeared onstage with the Republican nomination.

His pro-Trump stance particularly enraged members of the Mexican rock group Maná who removed a song they recorded with Nicky from their platforms.

The group said in an Instagram post: “Maná does not work with racists.”

A few days later, Nicky took down a photo of him posing with the former president from his Instagram page.

He has now withdrawn his support following Trump’s controversial rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Roast comedian Tony Hinchcliffe said onstage: “There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now.

“I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

Despite the joke apparently being about Puerto Rico’s landfill problem, many Latin American voters were offended by the remark.

Nicky, whose family moved to Puerto Rico when he was 10 years old, implied the joke was disrespectful.

The reggaeton star, who was born to a Puerto Rican father and Dominican mother, took to Instagram to tell his 43.5 million followers that he can no longer publicly endorse Trump.

In the clip, Nicky is seen sitting in the back of a car while telling the camera: “The reason I supported Donald Trump was because I thought it would be the best thing for the economy of the United States, where many Latinos live, including me.

“There are many immigrants who are suffering because of the economy, and he, being a businessman, made me think it was the best move.

“I never thought for a second that a month later a comedian would criticise my country and speak badly of it.

“Therefore, I withdraw my support for Donald Trump and I will step aside from any political discussions.”

He added: “Puerto Rico should be respected.”

The post, which has the comments section turned off, has gone viral with 3.5 million views, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The US election will be held on 5 November with both candidates reportedly running neck and neck.
