A vintage Alfa Romeo – one of only 40 ever made – is set to sell for £5.5m.
The super-rare 8C 2900 B Spider in the style of Zagato was built in 1937.
The 88-year-old classic car is only a two-seater.

It can go 120mph and was one of the fastest production cars in the 1930s.

It would have been worth just £4,000 brand new – 1,375 times less than its expected auction sale price.
That is about £235,000 in real terms, taking into consideration inflation.
It boasts a 2.9-litre straight-8 cylinder engine.

It is going under the hammer with RM Sotheby’s in Belgravia, west London, on 1 November.

The red motor – which has no roof – is in spectator condition following a restoration, as reported on Whats The Jam.
There is no reserve, but it is tipped to be bought for up to £5.5m.

A spokesperson for the auctioneers said: “This 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B Spider in the style of Zagato is the very first B variant.

“Delivered new to Germany, it was quickly fitted with a more Teutonic Karosseriewerk Aug Nowack body.
“After passing through the hands of several owners and spending some years in the United States, the car eventually came back to Europe in 1978.
“And by the early 1980s had passed into the ownership of noted Alfa authority David Black.
“During its restoration, the car was fitted with a 1930s Spider body, believed to have been completed by Zagato for the Brussels Motor Show.”
