A Cornishman chopping firewood was stumped when it revealed a map of Cornwall inside.
Jamie Macdonald discovered the distinct outline of the southwest country within the ash.
The charter boat boss, who was preparing the wood for seasoning, couldn’t believe how accurate the map looked.

And instead of using the two-and-a-half-inch diameter cut for firewood, he has decided to preserve it and put it on his wall at home in Mevagissey, south of St Austell.
The 43-year-old said: “I was chopping wood to store for next winter and found Cornwall inside.
“It was a piece I’d got from a local farm.
“I’ve never seen anything like it before.
“I was born in Cornwall and it was a piece of Cornish ash.”

He also told What’s The Jam: “I was surprised, to say the least.
“It’s uncanny, the more I look, the more detail I see.
“I was going to store it for seasoning for firewood.

“It’s mad, I absolutely can’t burn it now.
“I’ll keep it and probably put it on my wall at home.”
His wife, Hailey, added: “You’d struggle to draw Cornwall better than that, let alone find it by pure chance.”
Locals were just as surprised.
One said: “You never know what you will find when you start splitting wood.
“It can be like a scavenger hunt, or a little like Christmas because you never know what you will find.”
Another urged: “Make it into a chopping board.”
And someone else simply chimed in: “My kind of wood.”
