A dining establishment is receiving commendation for apprehending two suspected ‘dine and dash‘ patrons who allegedly fled without paying a £120 bill.

The proprietors assert that one individual had to contact his mother to settle the dues when located in a nearby bar.

The incident occurred at Mommy Thai in Leeds, a small family business amidst various bars in the city center. An irate owner mobilized the staff to locate the individuals.

After an extensive search, the culprits were discovered at Revolution de Cuba, where they reportedly initially refused to settle the bill. Subsequently, local police intervened, and one of the individuals had to contact his mother for a bank transfer.

Other patrons were appalled by the alleged misconduct but lauded the restaurant staff.

The restaurant received a mix of responses from patrons and the spokesperson for Mommy Thai commented on the situation.

Martin Nixon’s curiosity about the conversation with the individual’s mother was evident as he said, “I would have loved to hear the conversation to his mum asking for money.”

Another restaurant owner empathized, expressing a preference for amicable communication about the inability to afford the bill, stating, “I run a small restaurant myself I would rather them say I can’t afford the bill and be amicable.”

Reflecting on the shared experience, a person mentioned, “I’ve had this happen to me as well.”

Claudio Con praised the restaurant, simply stating, “Good work.”

Another individual named Dom showed respect, saying, “Well done and huge respect to you all.”

A spokesperson for Mommy Thai acknowledged the frustration over such incidents, noting that “There is frustration because it happens all the time.”

They found it surprising and great to see many people understanding the frustrations. Describing the hard work behind their success, the spokesperson mentioned, “My mum is a legend so it is great that people are calling her that; she’s worked incredibly hard for what we have.”

She mentioned, “We are one of the cheapest places you can go for food in town. The lunch deal that we have is the staple that created a buzz around the restaurant since it opened its doors.“
