Rare box of Pokémon cards goes under hammer for eye-watering £13,000

A rare box of Pokémon cards has gone under the hammer for an eye-watering £13,000.

It includes 30 booster packs of Pokémon’s TCG. Japanese Darkness and to Light (Neo Destiny) edition.

Although the packs are sealed, they come in a tatty cardboard box which was previously opened and dates back to 2001, according to What’s The Jam.

The item expected to sell for up to £13,000.

This is because the sealed packs could include rare cards worth thousands of pounds.

The iconic trading card game was popular with school kids in the late nineties and early noughties.

A single pack typically sold for £2.50 at the time.

The box features the Tyranitar character, along with Japanese text.

The bottom of the box reads: “For sale in Japan only.”

It is being sold at a trading card auction at Ewbanks, in Woking, Berkshire.

Other pricey items up for auction include a Pokémon 1st edition base set for £12,000.

The set comes with nine character cards including rare Shadowless Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise.

But the set includes the more popular red cheeks variant of Pikachu – one of the most coveted sets of all.

All cards come in English except the Raichu – which is in German – and the Arcanine character card, which comes in Dutch.

Another item up for auction is a 2002 first edition e-series sealed booster box, expected to rake in £12,000.

This box incudes 40 booster packs.

The box of Pokémon TCG. Japanese Town On No Map (Aquapolis) cards is so rare it has a starting bid of £5,000.

The auction is also selling single cards with hefty price tags.

The most expensive is a Pokémon TCG. Pikachu 20th Anniversary Festa Japanese Promo 279/XY-P Card.

The rare card is in mint condition and set to sell for £8,500.
