A rally car owned and driven by racing icon Colin McRae is heading under the hammer for £300,000.

This hair-raising 1987 MG Metro 6R4 ‘Group B’ Rally Car was purchased by the late great racer for his own personal use.

The motor was used by McRae for car course duties during the 1998 Colin McRae Stages.

Whilst working on the motor in his garage the vehicle sadly caught fire.

The vehicle has since gone under restoration and is equipped with its original V64V international engine.

The motor possesses a top speed of 120mph, as reported by Whats The Jam.

It could go to 60mph from a standing start in an eye-watering 3.2 seconds.

The MG Metro 6R4 holds multiple rally car class records including the Aintree Sprint, Anglesey National Circuit and Anglesey International Circuit.

The iconic rally driver held the record for the youngest-ever World Rally Championship Driver until 2022.

The Scotsman sadly died in a horrific helicopter crash at the age of 39 alongside his five-year-old son Johnny.
