A quirky new advent calendar has hit the shelves this week and is causing quite the stir online – with shoppers branding it “a total rip off”.

Glenn Kennedy runs a group on social media where he regularly shares the latest supermarket finds and deals.

After learning that British snack giant Walkers had released an advent calendar, he couldn’t resist taking a look.

The product, which is on sale in Iceland supermarkets, is priced at £10.

It contains the four classic flavours including cheese and onion, ready salted, salt and vinegar, and prawn cocktail in 25g bags.

Since its release, the calendar has quickly made its way across the internet.

While some appear to be excited about the idea of counting down to Christmas with crisps, others are balking at the price.

In his post online, Glenn, who is from Llandudno, said: “Today I went to Iceland to investigate the new Walkers crisp advent calendar.”

“For £10 (24 x 25g bags), let’s just say a total rip off on cost.”

Curious about the price, Glenn went over to the crisp aisle to do the calculations for himself.

A 12 pack of Walkers crisps, which contain 25g bags, were on offer, reduced from £3 to £2.95.

Glenn continued in his post: “On the crisp section they have 12 packs (25g Bags at £2.95).

“Times this by two, it equals £5.90. For 24 Bags, a saving of £4.10.

“Get a free cardboard box from the shop and make your own lol.”

The post has sparked an intense debate among the group’s 340,000 members, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Jane wrote: “This has to be the stupidest advent calendar yet.”

Amanda commented: “What the heck, just go buy a bag of crisps… much cheaper.”

Patrick added: “This one us stupid and well overpriced for what it is.”

“Every single advent calendar is the same if you went to compare them! Of course you aren’t going to pay x amount of money for the novelty of opening the doors every day in December,” Rebecca added.

Hazel said: “It’s an advent calendar what do you expect, I love it better than chocolate, kids could open and put in lunch box.”

“If people are mad enough to buy them,” wrote Sarah.

“Rip off,” said Sue, agreeing with Glenn.
