A Range Rover once owned and driven by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has sold for a whopping £66,375 after being lovingly restored.

The 2007 Tonga Green Metallic SE 3.6 TDV8 was originally supplied new to the late Monarch and is thought to be the only diesel L322 Range Rover in that colour ever built for her.

Other Royal Rovers were usually petrol-powered.

Built to full Royal specification, it came with a few regal touches including rear grab handles to help Her Majesty get in and out, and a dog guard in the back for her beloved corgis.

Photos prove the Queen was seen behind the wheel at both the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Sandringham, with the unique interior trim and seat piping matching perfectly.

Incredibly, even Prince Philip’s hat was spotted inside the motor in pictures taken on the same day.

Despite clocking up just over 120,000 miles, the vehicle’s royal connections make it one of the most remarkable Range Rovers ever to hit the market.

After leaving royal service, the car passed into private hands and even spent some time in sunny Spain, where the paint took a bit of a beating.

It was later restored to its former glory, with the owner tracking down original Land Rover Special Vehicles kit including the rear entertainment system and phone setup.

The owner only discovered its blue-blooded past by accident, as reported by Whats The Jam.

He’d bought it as a project, before spotting Special Vehicles stamps in the service book and realising its royal pedigree.

From then on, the car was treated like the crown jewel it is, restored with painstaking care and authenticity.

The L322-generation Range Rover – launched in TDV8 form in 2006 – is often hailed as one of the finest ever made, winning praise from motoring legends Jeremy Clarkson and Harry Metcalfe.

Fittingly, this model even shares its delivery date and chassis sequence with Clarkson’s own Tonga Green example, seen in Clarkson’s Farm.

Ahead of the sale, auctioneer Rob Hubbard said: “It is a privilege to offer a vehicle so closely associated with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“The L322 is already an icon of modern British motoring, and this example represents a unique opportunity to own a car that served our late monarch personally.

“We expect it will attract global interest from collectors and enthusiasts alike.”

And he was right.

The regal Rover went for £66,375 under the hammer at Iconic Auctioneers’ sale at the NEC Birmingham on Saturday (8 November).
