An overdue library kid’s book has finally been returned…after 31-and-a-half-years.

The ‘Thomas’s ABC’ tile was due back on 25 March, 1993.

John Major was the PM at the time and Man Utd were on course to win the first Premier League.

Staff said on Thursday (19 Dec) that the Thomas the Tank Engine book was finally back with them.

The customer sent it back in the post after finding it at home.

Librarians joked they would have to cancel their holiday to The Bahamas because they had axed fines on late books.

A spokesperson said: “We are very grateful to the anonymous borrower who posted us back our copy of ‘Thomas’s ABC’.

“We checked the date label and note that this book was slightly overdue by 31-and-a-half years.

Fortunately, we no longer issue fines on children’s books so we have cancelled our trip to the Bahamas over the Christmas holiday on this occasion.”

Locals couldn’t help but make light of the situation, as reported by What’s The Jam.
