Nigella Lawson has been hailed for her ugly buns.
The TV cook queen is renowned for her perfect home-cooked cuisine.
The 64-year-old whips up hot cross buns for Easter.
But she said they don’t look perfect like ones purchased from supermarkets.

However, Nigella said that is how they should be.

She said they don’t take much “effort” and you can just “sit around” while they are in the oven.
She added: “These have a decidedly ramshackle appearance.
“But I don’t see why home baking should look like shop-bought.”

Fan Natalie Werk said: “I’ve been baking them for three years now.
“And was about to give up because they weren’t perfectly round.”
Eric Lanlard added: “I love hot cross buns and these look delish.”

Nigella’s recipe for hot cross buns, as reported on What’s The Jam, makes 16 of them.
The ingredients include 150ml of milk, 50g of butter, 400g of bread flour, and 125g of mixed dried fruit.
The recipe reads: “I make my hot cross buns slightly smaller than is traditional.
“Don’t know why, just like them that way, but you form them the size you want, please.
“Just one thing I must be strict about: you do need to use proper bread flour here, not the usual plain.
“There’s no point to all this effort and ruining your chances of success over such a small but significant point.
“By effort, I don’t mean you need to be hugely active or expert to make these.
“You just need the patience to sit around while they rise and the faith to believe they will.”
Last month, Nigella admitted she loves eating chicken nuggets.
Last July, Nigella was mocked for saying she liked tucking into a simple bowl of Twiglets.
In 2020, she was ridiculed for calling a ‘microwave’ a ‘mee-cro-wah-vay’.
Nigella is known for her unusual food habits.
She has previously put caramel on potatoes and marmite on spaghetti.
