The most expensive car number plate ever sold in Britain has been bought for over £900,000.
The registration 1F was snapped up after a bidding war at a live auction.
It has gone for more than three times the average house price in the UK, which stands at £298,000.

The average price of a new car is £40,000 in the UK.
So, you could buy 22 motors for the same price as the reg plate and still have some change.
Bidding started at £300,000 and ended at £800,000, which rose to £905,000 after fees.
It made the plate Britain’s most expensive, beating JB1, which sold for £608,000 in July.
Ahead of the auction, its listing said: “In his own inimitable commentary style, the late, great Murray Walker once said: ‘”If” is a very long word in Formula 1; in fact, “if” is “F1” spelt backwards.’

“A brilliant line typical of a man affectionately known as “the voice of F1”.
“It could be pointed out that “F1” backwards is instead “1F”, like the very special registration number offered here.
“First issued in the Essex area in 1957, this registration has previously been applied to exotics such as a Ferrari 812 GTS.

“It now represents an outstanding opportunity for collectors to give their car an instant identity.”
It was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in London on November 1, as reported by Whats The Jam.
The most expensive number plate in the world is P7, which sold £12 million in Dubai in 2023.
It was sold at a charity auction, with the proceeds going to support the “One Billion Meals” campaign.
But, there are number plates in Britain that could be worth similar amounts.
F1, which last sold for £440,000 in 2008, could now go for £10,000,000.
And X1, S1 and G1 have all been valued at £1,000,000.
