Lego is selling a £270 Christmas tree that has 3,171 pieces and takes six people to make.

The new release features an 18-inch festive fir sitting on a detailed base.

Hidden behind opening hinged panels are four elaborate miniature rooms, including a cosy kitchen and Santa’s workshop.

There is also an elves’ canteen and even an entertainment room complete with games.

A tiny train circles inside the base, operated by a simple turn of a knob.

The Family Christmas Tree Decoration set priced at £269.99.

The set also includes Santa Claus, Mrs Claus, five hard-working elves, a brick-built Cataclaws, a reindeer, a snowman and even festive “plushie” animals to complete the magical scene.

But it has a whopping 3,171 pieces, and it is recommended that six people can help make it.

Some parents are already praising it as a way to create a new family tradition, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Others slammed it as a “waste of money”.

One person said: “My husband, two boys ages 12 and 10, my mom, dad and I were able to build this together.

“I love how Lego thought about building this set as a family.

“Different instruction booklets for different sets of bags.

“And the fact that built as a family adds wonderful holiday memories to this build.

“Love the different scenes, all the mini figures and the moving parts. Truly an awesome build.”

Someone else added, “We had such a good time assembling this Lego Christmas Tree.

“It may be expensive, but there are over three thousand pieces, lots of detail, and it is good-sized.

“The completed project is so fun to display. It is also nice that the box can be used for storage.”

A third person said, “Poor design and a waste of money.

“I have over 40 Lego sets, some very difficult, that I have put together with ease.

“I put this set together and am very disappointed with it.

“The colored bulbs, the leaves and some of the inside pieces fall off with the slightest touch or movement.

“The inside pieces that fall off cannot easily be put back on without much difficulty.

“I got so frustrated having to put pieces back on every time I opened the doors or moved the tree that I threw this set across the floor and threw it in the trash.

“Your best bet is to glue the pieces together as you build it.

“If Lego is going to continue to produce sets like this, then I will quit buying them.”

A fourth person added, “Firstly, this is too expensive for what it is. Secondly, my set was missing an entire bag, and I’m told it will take up to a month to receive it.

“Get it together, Lego.”
