A lap-dancing bar, near Windsor Castle, is set to close after 25 years leaving customers fuming.

The Honeypot bar has not had its sexual entertainment licence renewed.

It tried to get one like it has for the last quarter of a century, but it was rejected by town hall bigwigs.

It is located in posh Maidenhead, Berkshire – just six miles from King Charle’s residence, Windsor Castle.

The decision was made by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council – which governs both towns.

It was due to a large housing development in the area.

Local, Steve Robbins fumed: “Ah, ‘Maidendead’, the killer town of fun, again.”

Clint Tee said: “Everything is changing, every social event is getting shut down.

“They don’t want you to have a life or have enjoyment, we need to start to stand up as a unit.”

Richard Longmuir added: “Another sad loss to the community.”

Dirk Hunt said: “It’s a disgrace this is professionally operated and never had any problems in 25 years this is wrong.”

Mark Coomber said: “They want everyone to stay indoors.”

Will Davies joked: “On the plus side, wives don’t need to worry about why their husbands are running late anymore.”

The main opposer of the application was the company, Get Living, which is the power behind the new re-development of the area.

In an effort to attract over 1,200 new residents to the area, Get Living wants to make the area appealing to young families, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Get Living stated: “The development has been a key part of the regeneration of the town centre and will act as a catalyst for positive change in the area.

“We are therefore writing to object to the renewal of the licence application as we do not believe it is appropriate to have premises offering adult entertainment which does not fit in with the character of the local area or meet the aspiration of the new town centre.”

Honeypot owner, John Sennett argued: “We’ve been there for 25 years with no objections ever upheld.

“We don’t have a police presence at all there, we don’t have any trouble.

“There’s no reason for you to take the licence away as it’s exactly the same as last year.”

Mandy Brar, Jack Douglas and Genevieve Gosling were the councillors tasked with making the decision.

The report stated: “Councillor Douglas said that he believed that compared to that of previous years, the area in the vicinity of the premises had changed a lot over the years and questioned the appropriateness of the premises in the area now.

“Councillor Brar agreed and said that with the regeneration of Maidenhead, a lot had changed in the area.

“They agreed that they did not believe that it was now appropriate to have a sexual entertainment venue in this area.

“Councillor Gosling added that she agreed with what had been said.”
