The King’s personal Audi – which still has some special royal features – has sold but for just half its estimate.

In the wake of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, the vehicle has fetched a much lower price than expected.

The 2015 A6 Allroad 3.0TDi was used by His Majesty as a personal vehicle from January 2015 until October 2016.

It was up for auction with a guide price of £30,000 but has sold for just £16,875.

That price is typical of many second-hand Audi Allroads.

The model has long been a favoured choice of King Charles.

The car was photographed on several occasions, including arriving at Kensington Palace on 3 May 2015, with the then-Duchess of Cornwall in the passenger seat.

It was also driven to a charity polo match at Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire on 14 June 2015.

It is finished in a special-order Audi exclusive colour, commissioned solely for the royal household.

The finish is described as instantly recognisable to those familiar with royal vehicles.

The A6 was also specified with features not found on standard production cars, as reported by Whats The Jam.

Discreet lights were fitted within the grille and later removed when the car was formally decommissioned in October 2016.

Subtle traces of the work are visible today, offering a reminder of its former role without altering the car’s original appearance.

Inside, the cabin features walnut wood trim on the steering wheel and gear selector, soft-close doors, four-zone climate control with heated front and rear seats, rear window blinds, double glazing and a BOSE surround sound system.

Since leaving royal services the Audi has been in the care of a single long-term custodian, before passing to the current vendor.

It has covered approximately 115,000 miles and shows just two previous keepers on the V5.

While service records from its royal household period are not available – as is customary – the car has complete paper service history from late 2016 onwards, supported by its original Audi bookpack and detailed invoices.

Ahead of the sale car expert Rob Hubbard, said: “Opportunities to acquire a car used personally by His Majesty King Charles III are rare, particularly one offered with this level of documentation, care and discretion.

“It is a fascinating and usable piece of royal history.”

It was being sold by Iconic Auctioneers at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
