There’s nothing quite like a Full English… but are you prepared to pay the price for the pleasure?

The traditional British breakfast dish is such a favourite in the nation that eateries like Wetherspoons are pledging not to raise the cost of it.

The chain’s founder and chairman, Sir Tim Martin, said the long-time price of £5.75 would not increase in 2024.

But if you are after a more luxurious option, you will have to dig deep in your wallet.

In comparison to the budget deal, one of London’s most popular and famous hotels is now charging a whopping £56 for the same dish.

The Ritz, known for its glitz, glamour and five-star service, is offering what might well be the most expensive Full English in the UK.

According to the menu, the breakfast staple consists of two eggs – “cooked to your preference” – alongside back bacon, Cumberland sausage, grilled mushrooms and vine tomatoes.

Don’t worry, you also get a cup of traditional English Breakfast tea.

There is an upside to the extreme price that might make the experience worth it.

The menu says the dish is inclusive of the hotel’s continental breakfast, which costs £46 all on its own and consists of a variety of items from freshly baked croissants to fresh juice and more.

You also have bragging rights to say you’ve visited The Ritz and previous diners do rave about the “amazing” breakfast.

However, it appears the price has risen a fair bit in recent years.

Just two years ago, a Full English at the hotel would cost you just £40.

The hotel has five stars on TripAdvisor, with one reviewer saying: “Breakfast at the Ritz is a joy and worth every penny”.

It is the dealer’s choice – though it’s worth noting the dish it’s nearly 10 times more expensive than a Spoons brekkie, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The Full English is not the only pricey item on the hotel’s morning food menu.

If you want to “enhance your breakfast”, you can add items such as beluga caviar, priced at £402 for 30g or £750 for 50g.

The Ritz isn’t the only hotel in London offering a pricey morning meal.

Claridge’s – also a five-star establishment – charges a more palatable £32 or £45 for its Full English, depending on where you’re eating it.

The Full English at The Foyer & Reading Room at Claridge’s is £45, while the Full English Breakfast at Claridge’s Restaurant is £32.

Interestingly, despite being cheaper, this plate has more items on it.

It consists of “eggs any style”, pork sausage, smoked bacon, black pudding, field mushroom, San Marzano tomato and baked beans.

So, what will it be?

A slap-up breakfast at the local caff or are you willing to splash the cash on a fancy hotel breakfast?
