Noel Gallagher’s handwritten lyrics for Don’t Look Back in Anger have sold at auction for £20,160 – five times more than expected.

Regarded as one of Oasis’ biggest ever songs, this piece of music history is now heading to a new owner.

The iconic tune was part of the band’s beloved second album ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’.

First released in 1995, the album is widely considered one of the best of all time – winning British Album of the Year in 96.

Don’t Look Back in Anger was the first single to feature Noel on lead vocals – replacing his brother Liam.

Noel’s emergence as a singer is often believed to be the changing point in the brothers working relationship with the Britpop group splitting in 2009 before their shock reunion in 2025.

The £20,160 lyrics were scribbled down in blue ink on a white sheet of unlined paper.

Propstore in London, who hosted the sale, originally tipped the item to fetch between £2,000 to £4,000.

Mark Hochman, Propstore’s Music Specialist, said: “Propstore’s auction is a celebration of music history, with guitars that shaped the sound of a generation, handwritten lyrics that capture the first spark of legendary songs, and personal items that offer a glimpse into the lives of the world’s greatest music artists.”
