An exercise book found in a drawer of a school has been returned to the student who left it there 49 years ago.

History teacher Alex Morgan discovered it when he was tidying a classroom during half-term.

The front cover said the book had belonged to Sean Morris in 1975 and after the school issued an appeal the ex-pupil was found.

The book, labelled Roman Studies, was filled with neat handwriting and detailed sketches of an amphitheatre, Roman bathing systems and cities.

Deputy head teacher Kirstie Oliver said: “We were all completely blown away by this book that had been hiding in the bottom of a drawer and hadn’t been found in 49 years.”

Alex told What’s The Jam: “I could tell this wasn’t just any exercise book.

Sean Morris, now 63, who became a BT engineer said he didn’t remember the book at all.

“It’s quite strange how the memory works.

“I have absolutely no recollection of ever having it,” he said.

“There’s only five or six pages filled in the book but it covers two years of lessons.

“There wasn’t too much work going on in those Roman Studies lessons.

“I had a fantastic morning trying to recall all the different rooms, blocks, stories and teachers when I visited the school.

“There were certainly a few ghost faces appearing in my head during our walk-around.”
