England fans drive £650 car from England to Germany with plans to follow the Three Lions all the way to the final

Two England fan buddies have driven all the way from England to Germany in a £650 car to cheer on the Three Lions at Euro 2024.

Robbie Thompson and Dan McGladdery bought a Vauxhall Vectra, plastered it in England flags and drove it all the way to the tournament.

Setting off from Middlesbrough the lads have now driven over 2,500 miles to follow England city-to-city.

After cheering on Gareth Southgate’s men who beat Serbia one nil in England’s Euro 2024 opener the two pals have now hit the road again.

Robbie and Dan have now parked up in Frankfurt for the match v Denmark tomorrow (20 Jun) where Robbie has started to try the local delicacy.

Unfortunately for the host nation, the 39-year-old has not been too impressed with the food stating English cuisine is ‘definitely better’.

The two started their journey on Saturday (8 Jun) with the hope of driving across Germany to hopefully follow England all the way to the final.

Whilst out there the two have been parading their Vauxhall Vectra, speaking to fans from all nations and getting into the tournament spirit.

The pair will spend around £2,500 on fuel and accommodation, stopping in a mixture of youth hostels, campsites and Airbnb’s to keep the prices down.

Shoe company boss Robbie, 39, told What’s The Jam: “We are going to visit the fan zones in each city and go to at least one of the England games in the group stages.

“We are camping and also staying in youth hostels and Airbnbs

“I’ve been travelling with a friend of mine since I was five-years-old, Dan, fellow lifelong England supporter.

“We wanted to experience the tournament in full, driving, camping and trying the food.

“We have an issue in England of not supporting our own food.

“It’s no worse than German food, they’re very similar but overall English food is definitely better.

“The schnitzel was amazing but the sausages are over rated and nothing special. “

Robbie has made some special England colours trainers from his firm Zach Footwear to wear.

“We’ve been through the highs and lows of being England fans for over 30 years.

“My first memory is England losing to Germany in the semi-final of Italia 90, my parents didn’t know I was hiding behind the sofa watching the game.

“They didn’t know until we lost on penalties and I started crying.

“I really feel this is the year. This is one of the first ever shoes designed especially for England fans at a tournament – certainly since the 80s.

“I hope it’s a good omen and good luck charm, this time it really is coming home!

“The feedback from England fans seeing the journey has been amazing and spurred us on to try and get the best raw content possible to give a real insight to what it’s like out here, especially for those fans at home.

“It’s a real and honest insight into the food, the culture and the tournament.”
