Pole dancing is often regarded as a sport that combines gymnastics and dance.
It is often wrongly confused with lap dancing, which is an erotic dance and involves stripping.
The dancers – some in skimpy outfits – from Pole Finesse, in Bromsgrove, Worcs, visited Parkfield Grange in Stourbridge, West Midlands.
Emily Hocking, home admissions adviser at Parkfield, is a member of the pole dancing club.
She said the session came about after residents asked her what she did in her spare time.

She said: “Pole dancing skills are incredibly impressive and our residents were wowed by the athleticism of the team from Pole Finesse.
“Who kindly came to Parkfield Grange to share their love of the discipline.
“Residents always want to know what staff do in their downtime.

“I’m part of the Pole Finesse group fitness session twice a week and they wanted to know more.
“When we were looking at putting on a celebration of dance, our mother group Cinnamon Care, put on an initiative.
“When we asked residents they all said absolutely ‘Yes’.
“The instructors brought their own portable pole which they can pop up and down.
Ms Hocking said 70% of the residents were in attendance and some family members were not initially sure.
But she added they soon enjoyed the performance and saw the artistry in it.
Care home resident, Janet Garlick, 85 said: “The performances were fabulous.
“I was very impressed with how skillful the girls were and how beautifully they performed.”
Ms Hocking added: “We’re about giving residents choice.
“You’ll never please everybody but we certainly pleased our residents and that’s all we can hope for.
“Pole dancing is an art with its own skill set and the girls were absolutely fabulous.
“It is an art and great for fitness and the residents saw that.”
A spokesperson for Pole Finesse added they were very proud to perform at the care home and delighted it had been received so well.
Local Samantha-Jayne Smith said: “Such a brilliant response to this.
“Everyone loved it.
“And were amazed at the strength in these women.”
Kerry O’Brien added: “Brilliant.”
