A membership card for the famous Cavern Club signed by the Beatles is for sale – but there’s a catch.

It was from 1962 just before legendary drummer Ringo Starr joined the band.

The small two-inch by three-inch booklet was signed by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Pete Best.

In August 1962 Best was famously sacked by the band on the advice of producer George Martin.

Starr was drafted in and helped the group go on to achieve iconic status, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The listing for the item says: “An original membership card for the Cavern Club’s 1962 season signed to inner pages with inscriptions by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Pete Best.

“George, Pete and Paul’s signatures are on the Club Notes pages which are loose from book and can be opened up to display all three signatures.

“John’s signature is on one of the ‘For official use only’ pages.

“The book is in fragile condition with wear to cover and pages, loose pages etc – but signatures all still display clearly.”

The Cavern Club in Liverpool regularly played host to the Beatles in their early years.

From 1961 to 1963, the Beatles made 292 appearances there with their last in August 1963, a month after the band recorded their first number one single, She Loves You.

There is a bronze statue of John Lennon outside it.

The signed membership book is being sold by Omega Auctions, Newton-Le-Willows, near St Helen’s Merseyside on 2 December with a guide price of £6,000.
