Aldi appears to be in a booze battle.
Eagle-eyed shoppers were left amused after spotting the supermarket store selling its own beer brand right next to a competitor’s version.
And they’re saying Aldi’s version is “nicer”.
The retailer was flogging it’s Birra Mapelli side-by-side with Birra Moretti in its Manchester Market Street store yesterday (21 April).

There’s a distinct difference in pricing, too.
Mapelli comes in at £1.49, while Moretti is priced at £1.99 – giving shoppers a 50p saving if they opt for the dupe.
But it does contain less ABV at 4.6% versus 6% in the Moretti, as reported by What’s The Jam.
Both lagers are suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Social media users have praised Aldi’s own beer brand, even going as far as to say it’s preferable to Birra Moretti.

“Yep buy this regularly, had one just last night, great satisfaction achieved,” said Seb.
“And it’s actually nicer,” added Richard.
Ben said: “It’s not exactly the same but it’s a very good attempt.”

Jason added: “The Aldi version is actually better!”
“I prefer a wee Birra Mapelli,” said Irene.
Birra Mapelli is specially produced in Warwickshire.
Although Birra Moretti was originally created in Italy, the brand was bought by Heineken in the 90s and the UK’s beer is manufactured in Edinburgh.
Aldi is no stranger to a good booze dupe.
The supermarket has plenty of others, such as Ballycastle Raspberry Ripple Liqueur – which could be compared to Bailey’s Eton Mess Cream Liqueuer, to name but one example.
