A bizarre motorbike that looks more like a car is going under the hammer.

The quirky Quasar – one of just 21 ever built – was the last of its kind to roll out in 1980.

Designed by Malcolm Newell and Ken Leaman in the 1970s, the futuristic-looking machine features a semi-enclosed body and was fitted with a powerful Suzuki GS 850 engine.

Despite its ahead-of-its-time design, production was scrapped due to high costs and limited appeal.

But the look went on to inspire later models such as the BMW C1 scooter, as reported by Whats The Jam.

The sale listing boasts: “It features Bob Tait hub centre steering and Girling front brakes.

“The bike runs well and was ridden to our salerooms.

“An opportunity to acquire a rare and collectable machine.”

The unique ride is set to be auctioned by Charterhouse on 9 October, at the Haynes International Motor Museum, with experts expecting it to fetch between £6,000 and £7,000.

Collectors with a taste for the unusual are tipped to jump at the chance to own the rare motor.
