A woman who got a tattoo of a Red Bull can’s barcode tattooed on her skin has tested it out at the supermarket – and, incredibly, it works.
Dew, has multiple tattoos, including an alpaca, Zelda sword, hearts and a lemon – but the 22-year-old had been itching to get a barcode-style inking for a while.
After getting the new addition, she shared footage of herself testing it out on a self-scanner checkout on Instagram, where the clip garnered 17.8 million views.

Users were stunned to see the ploy worked, with the code scanning as if it were a can of the energy drink.
“I was thinking about getting a barcode tattoo for some time, however it wasn’t always planned to be a Red Bull,” Dew told What’s The Jam.
“I was thinking broccoli or something else silly.
“But then I was thinking: energy.
“My choice then fell on a Red Bull and I then added the worm which is chomping it up, based on a little drawing my sister did.”

She paid £450 for the tat before putting it to the test.
In the video, Dew can be seen holding her right arm out as she tries to scan the barcode at a self checkout.
She then takes the handheld barcode scanner and manages to scan it.

It comes up on the till as Red Bull 250ml, proving the inking worked – though she didn’t actually try to nab a free drink.
Dew captioned the post: “For everyone wondering if my Red Bull barcode works, yes it does.”
Since, it has gained over 387,000 likes and 1,900 comments.

Dew, from Switzerland, added: “I knew it possibly couldn’t work as my artist was very open about it.
“But he also tried his best.
“I tried the next day at work and it did, I was so excited about it.”
