Home Bargains shoppers have slammed a £6.99 “Dad’s Snack Crate” after it hit shelves ahead of Father’s Day.

The budget retailer has begun rolling out its seasonal gifts early, with Father’s Day products already appearing in stores and online ahead of June.

But while the crate is designed as a ready-made present, complete with a mix of snacks and a miniature beer, many shoppers say it doesn’t deliver value for money.

Inside the wooden-style presentation box – which also features a built-in bottle opener – shoppers get a small bottle of Stella Artois, a bag of McCoy’s flame grilled steak crisps, Go Nuts peanuts and Taveners soft black liquorice.

Despite the branded contents, the reaction online has been firmly negative.

One person wrote: “RIP off.”

Another added: “Seven quid for four quid worth of stuff.”

A third said: “I’d rather a card and a hug than this crap.”

Others also took aim at the packaging, with one shopper commenting: “Shame about the plastic.”

And another joked the contents weren’t quite up to scratch, writing: “Not enough beer for my hubby.”

The crate is part of Home Bargains’ wider Father’s Day range this year, which includes novelty mugs, grooming kits, beer-themed gifts and budget-friendly hampers.

Shoppers can also find DIY-inspired presents and themed gift sets both in-store and online as retailers gear up for the annual celebration.

But while the idea of a grab-and-go gift may appeal, it seems this particular offering hasn’t gone down well with early shoppers.
