A manicurist with a phobia of bugs was left horrified after a client sent her a cluster of dead spiders to embed into her nails.

The customer had been badgering Catalina Sánchez to encapsulate the bugs in her nails for two years.

Catalina, better known online as Dolly Nailsz, eventually agreed to do it.

She said: “At my client’s request, I created a set of claw-shaped nails with encapsulated spiders and insect wings.

“It’s a disruptive art form that breaks the mould and makes people feel uncomfortable.

“All the insects used were collected by my client, found dead in corners of her house, and on public squares and other places.

She also told What’s The Jam: “She is a visual artist and works on projects that explore the meaning of death.”

“I refused to do this for about two years, but I finally agreed.”

A video of the procedure went viral on Catalina’s TikTok page with 1 million views and thousands of comments.

She was heard saying, “I have a phobia of bugs, but she brought me these little creatures.

“They make me want to throw up.”

One local said, “Did you notice they were brown recluse spiders? I have a phobia of spiders and I recognised them perfectly.”

“I like them for Halloween but not for anything else,” added another.

Saray remarked, “My fear of spiders would never allow it; I couldn’t even finish watching the video!”

Some users also criticised the client for apparently killing the bugs just to use them in the acrylic nails.

But Catalina, who lives in the Chilean capital Santiago, pointed out that they all had been collected for an abandoned art project, and that they had died first.

She explained: “Under no circumstances were they captured to be placed in the nails; on the contrary, they were for an art project that was never finalised.”

She also said that the client was very happy with the final results.

“The clip made national and international headlines, appearing in various media outlets and generating a lot of debate and buzz,” Catalina said.

“It was definitely a new experience for me.

“But I hope it doesn’t happen again.”
