A woman has been branded “insane” thanks to her outlandish home décor – specifically inside her fridge.

Lynzi Judish is spearheading the ‘fridgescaping’ trend – which involves decking out the inside of our refrigerators in aesthetically pleasing ways.

For the 37-year-old, this involves framed pictures, candles and flowers, as well as carefully organising her fresh food.

Videos of her various fridgescapes have gone viral on TikTok, garnering over a million views and dividing users.

“Every time I do a new fridgescape theme, it takes roughly 2-3 hours to put together the refrigerator,” Lynzi, from Hudson Valley, New York, told What’s The Jam.

“That involves putting my produce into different containers, foraging, picking veggies and herbs and flowers from the garden.

“It can be a long process, but it’s my hobby.

“This is what I most love to do for fun!

“It’s very calming for me and I enjoy it so much.

“For me, it’s a creative outlet as well as a way to promote healthy eating.”

Lynzi’s fridgescapes don’t just include standard Tupperware or other containers commonly found in fridges – she also incorporates edible flowers, and non-edible objects like framed images and decorative ornaments.

In one video, she shows her milks and juices beautifully laid out in glass carafes, her fruits and vegetables in woven baskets, and vases filled with flowers – which she incorporates into her meals.

She also has a large framed picture of a horse, and various candles, as well as whimsical ornaments used for dishes, like a hedgehog holder.

In the video, Lynzi responded to a critic who asked what the point of fridgescaping was, saying that it helps her keep better track of her produce, encourages her to try new foods, and prevents food waste with the layout.

But viewers were torn – with some calling the practice “insane”.

“Where do people find the energy for this kinda stuff?” another wondered.

One said: “I’ve never related to something less in my life.

Someone else added: “Hey so this is insane.”

“I’m torn between horror and intrigue,” said another viewer.

Others bemoaned the use of framed pictures, flowers and candles – though Lynzi said they are “just for joy”.

But other users were more on board.

One said: “I personally love it. My fridge is a disaster!! Keeping on fridgescaping!!”

“I can’t even keep up with our floors clean and furniture polished let alone scape my fridge. In a different life I aspire to this,” said another fan.

Another user said: “I’m not gonna lie at first I thought this is pointless, but if it helps you to explore new foods, enjoy cooking more & brings you joy each time you open the fridge door..who am I to judge! You go Girl.”

Someone else added: “Looking at your fridge makes me so happy.”

Another person said it was a “little insane but cute”.

Luckily, Lynzi isn’t fazed by the criticism.

She said: “There’s been a very diverse response to the fridgescaping.

“I think there’s too much negativity in the world and if something brings a person joy, I will never discourage it.

“I feel like the world is so divided these days, especially in the United States, and I see no point in adding to that over someone else’s refrigerator – it’s silly.

“A lot of people like to comment that they simply think it’s stupid or it’s a waste of time.

“People with families often think it’s impractical and that their husband or children wouldn’t be able to do it.

“I’m definitely glad my husband enjoys it!

“On the positive side, a lot of people feel that they love seeing someone add some whimsy to their life.

“They see the importance of romanticizing your life and finding joy anywhere you can.

“People have tried it and said they’re eating healthier and have less produce waste.

“I had people comment with disordered eating saying that it’s helped them have a better relationship with food.

“I personally have experienced all of these things and as someone with a long and complicated relationship with food, this has helped me eat healthier than ever and I’m reaping those benefits every day.

“I read somewhere that the average American opens their refrigerator 33 times a day – so it’s about making those 33 times enjoyable.”
