A man thought to be dead ran two miles home to his loved ones after suddenly springing back to life in an ambulance.

Prueang Enmak, 59, had no vital signs for over 20 minutes.

He collapsed in the shower at home and was found by his wife Sombat Enmak, 57.

She said he had consumed “two or three beers” before having a wash.

According to Sombat, her husband had stopped breathing and appeared to be dead.

She immediately called the emergency services in Prasat District in the Thai province of Surin.

A Sawang Arom Rescue Foundation spokesperson said the medical team was assigned to transport the dead man’s body from his home to Prasat Hospital for an autopsy.

When they arrived on the scene, they found the man’s relatives trying unsuccessfully to revive him.

Paramedics continued to perform CPR on Prueang as the ambulance hurried to hospital.

After around 20 minutes, the modern-day Lazarus sprang back to life outside the hospital and ripped the intravenous tube from his arm.

The authorities said he appeared confused and didn’t initially speak to anyone.

He then hopped out of the back of the ambulance and ran 1.9 miles (3km) back home.

At least one paramedic suffered minor injuries during his unexpected escape.

The ambulance driver followed Prueang along the road as colleagues repeatedly asked him to stop running.

However, he allegedly grabbed a wooden stick and warned them to stay away.

He continued running back to his house where stunned family members managed to calm him down.

Prueang later told local media that he felt “exhausted” after his journey home, adding that he didn’t know he could run that far.

He said the only thing on his mind was getting back home, not going to hospital.

There have been no further updates on what could have caused his sudden illness and recovery.

According to his wife, this wasn’t the first time he had apparently passed away before suddenly coming back to life.

Five years ago, he allegedly stopped breathing at a Thai traditional dance but recovered shortly after the show had ended, as reported by What’s the Jam.
