A holidaymaker was stunned to find a terrifying ‘witchcraft figure’ on a tourist beach.

The spooky statue was about 50cm tall and wore a black cape with hair attached to its head.

The black figurine had white markings and stood on a plaster base.

It is believed the statue is of African origin and was probably used in a black magic ritual on the beach over the Easter weekend.

The unusual object was found on Playa Sol in the port city of Coatzacoalcos in Mexico, as reported by What’s The Jam.

A holidaymaker, named Iris, said on social media: “My husband found this ugly thing, I don’t even know what it is.

“He didn’t touch it or anything for anyone worried about that.”

She suggested the object could be from the Santería religion that developed in Cuba from an African faith.

Iris stated: “I think it could be something from Santería, it has horns, goat legs, a tail, and so on.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong in showing an image of it.

“Maybe it was left on the beach for years or fell from a boat, who knows?”

She added: “I believe in God almighty.”

Many locals said it is common for certain groups to carry out religious practices on the beaches during the Easter weekend, including witchcraft rituals.

However, it remains unclear who owned the figurine and where it came from.

One local said: “It’s a deity of the Cuban Santería religion called Yemaya, the protector of the sea, fishermen, the family, and home, and it’s of African origin.”

Omar said: “It’s Voodoo.”

Graciela wrote: “My faith is in God.”
