A spokesman said: “Newcastle is and always has been one of our favourite cities.

“It is, without a doubt, one of the friendliest places you can venture, especially if a few samples of the local brew and hospitality is on the menu!

“You don’t have to be sitting comfortably in a bar such as the Bridge or Crown Posanda before you get into a conversation about football.

“The North East has always been a football mad place.

“Newcastle is very much the epitome of a one club town – up there, you are either Toon or nothing, and I believe that it breeds a particularly passionate supporter. “

Newcastle United face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday March 16 as reported by What’s The Jam.

They last one a major domestic trophy – the FA Cup – in 1955.
