A man with multiple wives and children who confesses to once being a “serial cheater” says that polyamory is the only lifestyle that works for him.

Jame Barrett, 30, said that monogamous relationships never worked out for him and he found that he was often cheating, sneaking around and hiding secrets from his girlfriends.

But by embracing polyamory – a relationship style that involves romantic or sexual relationships with multiple partners, with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved – he has found peace.

James now has five ‘wives’: Cameron, 29, Jessica, 31, Reta, 28, Gabby, 30, and Diana, 30.

He has been with Cameron and Jessica for 13 years, Reta for eight years, Gabby for seven and Diana for four.

“I was always a cheater in my monogamous relationships,” Jame, a recording artist, told What’s The Jam.

“I’ve always had a desire for variety.

“I’m like that, not just with my women.

“I also felt like I wasn’t being true and honest with myself, so I felt more limited and internally conflicted.

“Now I feel freer and more at peace.

“I also feel like I’ve grown and matured because I’ve had to.”

Jame has 11 children: Aiden, 12, Abel, 11, Jessie, 9, Ayaan, 6, Jett, 5, JD, 4, Sophia, 4, Octavia, 3, Bobby, 2, Cleo, 1, and 11-month-old Summer.

He said, “My poly relationship is so much better.

“But like any other relationship, it has its pros and cons.

“On the one hand, you have more spousal help.

“I always wanted a lot of kids so I can get that quicker.

“Also, the desire for variety is satisfied.

“On the other hand, it’s more work to lead five women and 11 kids, and it’s more work to be dependent on them, to be their emotional and financial support.

“But at the end of the day, I love them all deeply, and it has elevated me as a man.”

Jame claims his wives, who he lives with in Los Angeles, California, love it too.

He said, “They say the pros are helping with the kids and not as much spousal stress.

“The cons are just that you get jealous, understandably, and that you don’t get as much one-on-one time as you’d like.

“It’s hard to get along sometimes.”

But Jame believes that this way of life is “not new” and that it has been a “construct since man began”.

Jame added: “This is practised all over the world.

“But my family specifically is unique because we are not doing this for religious reasons or because it is our cultural norm.

“We are doing it because we found true love in it, and there are plenty of people like us who continue to ask us to keep going for them.

“People reach out to us, thanking us and asking us for advice – so there’s a bigger purpose here.

“Monogamy isn’t the only way to love, we want to normalise and legalise polygamy.

“Not the weird, religious, culty stuff but like normal adults who just decided that they want this relationship type.”
