An engaged couple have miraculously survived plane crashes that happened almost simultaneously – on two different planes.

The future husband and wife had decided to experience something new by taking to the skies in ultralight aircraft.

The planes took off from two different airfields not far from each other with their respective pilots and passengers on 17 December.

But shortly after, both aircrafts crashed to the ground just miles apart.

The first ultralight crash landed in a field between the airfield in Busano, Italy, and neighbouring Favria around 6 pm after suddenly losing altitude.

The 42-year-old pilot luckily escaped with just bruises, while his passenger sustained a minor leg injury.

They were taken to hospital in Ciriè for treatment.

Moments after the first crash, the second ultralight, which had taken off from an airfield in Pianezza, crashed into a lamppost beside a road in San Gillio.

The 38-year-old pilot managed to exit the cockpit on his own but his passenger had to be pulled from the wreckage by firefighters.

They were taken to hospital in Turin by ambulance.

The pilot’s condition is reportedly serious, while his passenger’s prognosis is reserved – but her condition is not life-threatening.

The authorities quickly found out that the injured passengers were an engaged couple.

The passenger in the first accident is a 30-year-old baker who lives in Turin, while the passenger in the second crash is his fiancée, a 22-year-old student.

The couple had enjoyed lunch together in Pianezza shortly before boarding the planes.

Both accidents are under investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest the first crash happened after a technical failure forced the pilot to attempt an emergency landing.

And a sudden, violent storm that drastically reduced visibility may have caused the second accident.

The names of those involved were withheld at the time of reporting.
