A doctor revealed that he regularly commutes 2,500 miles to work after moving to Africa to open a guest house.

Piotr Sutkowski relocated to Morocco with his partner Agnieszka, a qualified nurse.

The couple called it “the best decision of our lives”.

They left their home in Poland to set up the Dar Ines hotel in Bouzama, Morocco.

Agnieszka said: “We travelled to Morocco every year for over a decade.

“And from our first visit, we were captivated, mainly by the people.

“They’re very friendly and helpful, and they have a different approach to life than us.

“They don’t chase money, they’re not jealous, they live with what they have.”

She also told What’s The Jam: “Of course, our hearts were also won by the fact that it’s always warm and sunny here.

“We came here two or three times a year until finally, during one of our holidays in Marrakesh, a Moroccan waiter told us ‘what’s impossible elsewhere is always possible in Morocco’.

“From that moment on, we started looking for our little place on earth.”

Agnieszka, who comes from Wałbrzych, Poland, took early retirement after working as a nurse for 22 years.

She said: “My husband is a doctor and still works because he hasn’t reached retirement age yet.

“He returns to Poland once every few weeks for work.”

Piotr is still under contract with a hospital in Wałbrzych where he works as an emergency physician.

He flies home every three weeks on average, but boards a plane back to Morocco after his shift ends.

Agnieszka said they looked for the right hotel to buy for over a year.

They eventually found a building in progress and spent three months renovating it.

Agnieszka explained: “Now we run the Dar Ines hotel, which is a challenge for us, but we wanted to try something new and test ourselves in something different.

“The hotel is mainly visited by Poles. We try to take care of them from the moment they arrive, sending a driver to the airport, suggesting places to see, and sometimes organising tours.

“Our oldest Polish tourist is 88 years old.

“We want to show them the beauty of the country and the Moroccan mentality, to convince them that there’s nothing to be afraid of.

“Despite the different culture and religion, it’s a very open and friendly country.

“And Morocco is a truly safe country – we believe it’s much safer than Europe today.

“Life moves slower here, no one’s in a hurry, no one’s stressed.

“I have three Polish friends here.

“One lives here permanently, the other comes for a few months, and we arrange horseback riding trips, and the third fell in love with Morocco so much that she moved here too.

“We have two employees: a Moroccan couple who help us with the garden, pool, breakfast, and cleaning.

“They are lovely people who we value and respect very much.

“They tell us we’re their family and invite us for dinner, for example, during Ramadan.”

When asked if they plan to ever return to Poland, Agnieszka said: “Time will tell.

“Now we’re happy discovering Morocco, and the hotel is a form of work for us and a way to supplement our pension.

“We know for sure that coming here was the best decision of our lives.”

She added: “This place is a gift from fate.”
