A British urban explorer has been left ‘saddened’ by the ‘state’ of a once-glorious theme park that’s been left to rot.

Charlee Popperwell and her pals made their way through the eerie grounds of Flambards Park, which was once bursting with life.

The 21-year-old climbed up old, rotten roller coasters, slid down abandoned slides and pedalled rusty old rides.

Despite only being closed for under a year, she found that nature had wasted no time in reclaiming the theme park.

Flambards, located in Helston, Cornwall, entertained families for generations after opening its doors way back in 1976.

But officials made the difficult decision to shut the amusement park down after 48 years.

The closure, which was announced late last year, came after main attraction rides retired, struggles to source specialist parts, and maintenance costs drained the business’s finances.

“It was very sad to see the state of the place,” Charlee from Penryn told What’s The Jam.

“Especially having so many childhood memories there, not just for me but for many people in Cornwall.

“It was weird to walk around a theme park where nothing was running.

“Most of the rides are still there, but then some have been sold off in an auction along with the stuff from the Victorian village.

“It was very easy to get in, and there was not a lot stopping anyone from going inside.

“The site is constantly patrolled by security.

“I think a lot more people have been going now, so it’s unlikely most people will get in without getting caught.”
