A pair of newborn twin hyenas born against the odds have melted hearts in adorable footage.

They are also seen cosying up to the older hyenas for comfort and wobbling as they try to keep their balance.

With more than 301,000 likes, the video has also inspired appreciative comments from 1,100 animal lovers.

The arrival of infant hyenas is unique and challenging, involving birth through an extended clitoris.

The babies often sadly die during the process, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Cubs are born with open eyes, teeth, and fully developed muscles, but the narrow birth canal can lead to suffocation or severe tearing.

But Etosha and Nakuru, born at Sydney Zoo, are doing well.

They will rely on their mother’s nutrient-rich, high-protein milk for over a year, and can grow up to 90kg (14st).

A spokesperson for Sydney Zoo said: “The spotted hyena, widespread in Africa, faces continued decline in wild populations due to habitat loss and persecution.

“Often misunderstood, hyenas are incredibly intelligent with remarkable social behaviours.”
