Pygmy hippos (Choeropsis liberiensis) are native to West Africa, but their numbers are decreasing in the wild due to habitat loss for logging, mining, and agriculture.
Found only in small populations in West African lowland forests and wetland habitats, they have an estimated population of fewer than 2,500 individuals in the wild.
They are listed as endangered on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
