A hapless swan got it in the neck after getting wedged in a drain.
The big white bird was chased into a canal overflow by an angry rival.
The mute swan was saved after its head was spotted protruding from a hole.

A specialist rescuer was called in to reach it and its attacker, who was also trapped.
She hauled them out after using a canoe to reach them.
The swans were spotted by a passer-by who told staff at a nearby hotel.
They were caught in the overflow drain of the Furness canal in Ulverston, Cumbria.
Staff at the Bay Horse Hotel and Restaurant which overlooks the canal, contacted Caroline Simms, who cares for the swans.

Hotel owner Lesley Wheeler said it was thought one swan had chased the other into the drain and they couldn’t escape.
“A passer-by noticed this unfortunate swan had got stuck in the overflow drain of the canal basin at Canal Foot,” she told, What’s The Jam.
“Caroline Simm immediately went to the rescue.

“She hauled them both out while balancing in a kayak.
“It was pretty amazing to watch.
“She is Ulverston’s answer to Virginia McKenna
“I’ve never seen a swan stuck like that before.”
Swans are a common sight especially around Canal Foot and near Furness Abbey with local groups actively monitoring and helping them.
