A dark handsome bull named Romeo has been crowned the world’s tallest steer by Guinness.

The Holstein male cow is several inches taller than the previous record-holder, a 6’ 1” bull named Tommy.

Romeo stands at a height of 6 feet and 4.5 inches.

He has lived at the Welcome Home Animal Sanctuary in Creswell, Oregon, Us, since he was just 10 days old.

Volunteers rescued him from a veal crate at a dairy plant and brought him back to their vegan farm sanctuary, as reported by What’s the Jam.

Welcome Home founder Misty Moore explained: “He was rescued from a lady who went to a dairy and she saw all the calves from the crates and was able to secure the release of five of them.

“Once she got them from that dairy, she contacted the sanctuary and we were able to take Romeo and another called Milo.”

She added: “Despite his size, Romeo still runs and plays like a puppy!”

Yesterday (22 May), he was officially confirmed as the planet’s tallest steer.

She applied to Guinness World Records in December last year.

Proud Misty said: “It’s official.

“Initially, we were hesitant to put Romeo on display.

“As a sanctuary committed to providing a forever home to vulnerable animals, exploiting him for his height felt contrary to our values.

“However, we ultimately decided to embrace this opportunity to let his story be heard.

“Romeo is a rare survivor of the dairy industry. Male calves born on dairy farms are considered waste by-products since they do not produce milk.

“Consequently, they lead short, unpleasant lives, often ending within 18 to 24 months.

“Romeo is now six years old – a testament to what these animals could become if given a chance.

“Holsteins are a large breed, and if more Holstein males were allowed to mature, Romeo’s height would not be exceptional.

“We never intended for Romeo to break records, however we are thrilled that he can now serve as an ambassador representing all farmed animals.”

Misty added: “His life story is a powerful reminder of the sentience and value of every animal, urging us to rethink our relationship with them.”

Previous record holder Tommy lived in Massachusetts, US.
