A man has been filmed snorkelling in a crocodile-infested lagoon just a few feet from a lurking reptile.

The clip shows the man snorkelling in the water as the croc looks on from under a tree just a few metres away.

The cameraman asks him: “Have you seen the crocodile?”

However, the snorkelling man apparently doesn’t hear him and continues swimming in the direction of the lurking croc.

The onlooker says in surprise: “It doesn’t matter to you?”

The man eventually lifts his head from the water and removes his snorkel.

He turns to the cameraman and says: “He is my buddy.”

The onlooker replies: “Really? How brave!”

The snorkeller repeats: “The crocodile is my buddy.”

There are two crocodile species in Cancun, the Morelet’s crocodile (Crocodylus Moreletti) and the American crocodile (Crocodylus Acutus).

Many areas of Cancun’s tourist zone have signs warning people to not swim in the lagoon.
